世界儿童文学重头奖项卡内基文学奖以及凯特·格林威绘本奖于17日公布了入围的短名单。两大奖项皆为英国图书馆协会所设，前者于1936年为纪念苏格兰慈善家安德鲁·卡内基而设，主要颁发给英国的儿童小说和青少年小说家，是世界儿童文学圈内最高奖项之一；后者为 纪念19世纪伟大的童书插画家凯特·格林威女士所设，评选的是年度最出色的绘本图书。
战争、疾病、逆境这些主题贯穿了两大奖项的入围书籍。奖项评委会主席表示，作家和插画家创作流畅，毫无滞碍。书中所描绘的黑暗往往被乐观的希望之光照亮。这些作家入选，不仅仅因为他们的才情，更重要的是他们启发了孩子们的心智，在铺展情节的过程中向读者灌输了希望的力量。
