内容简介

Deng Xiaoping(邓小平)visited the United States as Vice-Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, from January 28 to February 5, 1979, nine days in all, marking a major event in the history of Sino-U.S. relations. This visit was a forwarding move in the wake of the thaw achieved between China and the United States, of which the grand groundwork had been laid by Mao Zedong(毛泽东)and Zhou Enlai(周恩来)in the early 1970s, with a vision of inaugurating China's future international influence and paving the way for China's gradual reform and opening up, alongside the implementation of its modernization program.
I worked with China Daily News(美洲华侨日报)in New York as deputy editor-in-chief and also in charge of news reporting when Deng Xiaoping visited the United States, so I was naturally assigned and duty-bound to cover the entire event. I brought along a colleague of photography for the task, and we shared in the division of labor as follows: I was responsible for the text reporting, while he was responsible for taking pictures; I contacted official personnel, and he arranged transportation and accommodation. Close collaboration between the both of us garnered an extraordinary harvest.
